The Floathouse Lodge
This float house building was built locally, for use as a church. It served this function for several years before a diminishing local population could no longer muster an active congregation, and so the building reverted to its main constructor, and was thence sold and used for several different things, having to be towed from one location to another, before Bruce and Josée bought it, and towed it home, to finally become our sea kayaking hostel.
The Floathouse Lodge building sits upon a huge raft of logs, on the ocean, and is surrounded by low level decking, including kayak loading areas, and ramp ways. The sea kayaking hostel has four upstairs double+ rooms complete with skylights, two rooms still have the original church’s stained glass windows in the gable ends.
There are two single rooms on the ground floor adjacent to the bathroom and shower, and a spacious communal kitchen and dining area, complete with cooking equipment, propane stove, fridge, lights, and furnace. The sea kayaking hostel has large picture windows in the dinning area which make sunsets, foul weather retreats, and meal times, a continual visual feast.
