A wilderness oasis in the Broughton Archipelago

The Paddler's Inn is located in Simoom Sound, British Columbia, 1 km from Echo Bay Resort and Provincial Marine Park. Our GPS coordinates are N50 45.461 W126 29.271 (NAD 83).

The Broughton Archipelago is a place of natural vibrancy, where glimmering waters are protected yet ever moving, as the constant flow of tides and seasons are reflected.

Vancouver Island kayaking, especially when coupled with the comforts of an oceanfront lodge, offers visitors a spectacular opportunity to experience nature close up.

This area is home to eagles, blue heron, and a multitude of sea birds as well as mink, otter, sea lions, porpoises, dolphins, orca, and humpback whales.

Along the shore you may also view deer, wolf, raccoon, and black bear feeding at the waters edge. This part of the coast is dotted with hundreds of islands, creating an endless variety of passes and channels in which to explore.

Because of these protected seas and abundance of wildlife, the native peoples of Canada have inhabited this area for upward of six thousand years. Ancient village sites are still in evidence today, reminding us of days when humankind lived closer to, and in harmony with the world that supports us.

We are approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) East of Port McNeill, Telegraph Cove, and Alder Bay, making our location an ideal circuit tour. We are a perfect turning point for independent multi day kayak tours having originated from these locations, and points beyond.

If you travel by land to Alder Bay, Telegraph Cove , or Port McNeill at the north end of Vancouver Island you can launch your kayak, or hop aboard our charter boat, or a float plane, and head off in the direction of Echo Bay Resort and Provincial Marine Park, at the north end of the Broughton Archipelago.

This crossing takes 2-3 days by kayak, 2 hours by boat, and about 20 minutes by float plane. You’ll pass through a myriad of channels and passes as you head toward our location in the Broughton Archipelago wilderness.

Calm seas, warm summer days and an environment rich with wildlife and ancient culture, make this area both inviting and enriching to experience. Whether you use our facility as a destination holiday, base camp, or turn around point, you’ll find us helpful.

We offer a variety of services, as do other local operators like Echo Bay Resort, Pierre's Bay, Alder Bay, Telegraph Cove, and Port McNeill.
